The students of TIGPS – Durgapur have excelled on the sporting field and many have been rewarded by gaining selection in the various sports competitions. Our constant efforts are to develop the personality of our children by nurturing every aspect of their life. Kho – Kho develops a spirit of healthy competition and inculcate in students a spirit of team work and timely coordination. We conducted an Inter-house Kho-Kho match Competition for both the boys and girls of classes IV-IX on 22nd November, 2018 in our School Playground. The teams were divided in eight groups – Boys: Tagore House, Vivekananda House, Netaji House and Teresa House and Girls: Tagore House, Vivekananda House, Netaji House and Teresa House. The hooters filled the ambience with excitement. The tough competition made everybody to hold their breath till the last second. Our Games Teachers Chandan Kumar Yadav Sir and Smima Khatun Ma’aam conducted the games with the involvement of almost all the teachers and staffs while our Respected Principal Sir presided over the event with a keen eye. In the end Vivekananda House (Boys) & Netaji House (Girls) were the winners and Netaji House (Boys) & Vivekananda House (Girls) coming runners-up.
An Inter-house Quiz competition was planned on 14.11.2018 to commemorate ‘Children’s Day’ in TIGPS-Durgapur. The Quiz began with the introduction of the quizmaster who was our Respected Principal Sir himself and contestants from each house-team – Tagore House, Vivekananda House, Netaji House and Teresa House. The rules of the inter-house quiz competition were announced. Principal Sir conducted the quiz in a very interactive way and the teams participated with great enthusiasm. They skilfully answered the questions asked. Though some of the questions were very tricky, the teams tried to answer them with confidence. The questions put forth to the teams were intriguing, exciting and made the audience go ‘Aah!’ and clap when the teams answered correctly. The audience also got a chance to participate every time the teams answered incorrectly. Every round was a mixed bag with questions from history, sports, books, languages, vocabulary and science. The final round, the Rapid-fire round and the Audio-Visual Round gave the teams a chance to catch up with leaders and put-up a tough fight. The competition ensured that the teams minutely read every detail in the newspapers of the week gone by. Our special thanks also to Madhubanti M’aam for her hard work in organizing the Quiz right from Question Setting to judging the competition. In the end Tagore House came out the winner with Teresa House the Runners-up.
TIGPS – Durgapur celebrated Diwali by Diya (Lamp) Lighting presentation on 05.11.2018 before the students went for their Diwali Holidays. Teachers and Students participated with great enthusiasm in preparing decorated Diyas and all of them put on a spectacular show on the occasion. Our Principal Sir overlooked the whole celebration and enjoyed the show along with the students, teachers and staffs.
The 5th of September is celebrated as Teacher’s Day all over India. It is the birthday of the second president of India, Dr. S. Radha Krishnan. Dr. Radha Krishnan was an outstanding teacher and set high standards for all the teachers of the country to follow. Thus, his birthday is celebrated as teacher’s Day every year. This year also on 5th September, 2018 our Principal Sir Lighted the Lamp and garlanded the portrait of Dr. Radha Krishnan before giving a short speech to the students on the speciality of the Day. TIGPS – Durgapur celebrates Teacher’s Day in a unique manner. The teachers are given a break from their routine on that day. The teachers are welcomed by the students to a colourfully decorated auditorium with Flowers and Tilaks. They take their seats, and the students present a cultural programme prepared especially for them. The students present songs, dances, parodies and plays. In the end, the Teachers and the Staffs are presented with colourfully wrapped gifts. All the students of TIGPS - Durgapur take this opportunity to tell the teacher how much they love and respect them.
The auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated at TIGPS - Durgapur by organizing a Rakhi making competition for the students on 23.08.2018. Raksha Bandhan is a special occasion to celebrate the bond between brothers and sisters symbolized by the tying of a holy thread, ‘Rakhi’ around the wrist of brothers. The children joined in this celebration, which was aimed at strengthening the bond of love and to instill the virtues of love and harmony among the young, growing students of TIGPS - Durgapur. All the children participated with great zeal and zest in the creative competition of Rakhi making. The competition saw a number of creative and colourful Rakhis being made by the students. The Rakhis that were made were an enviable lot and a fusion of modern with traditional styles was seen. The competition was judged by our Principal Sir on the basis of originality. The designs were so creative and fascinating that it was very difficult to come out with a single best one.
Children’s Days is a great event which is celebrated in many places around the world. In India, we celebrate children’s day on 14 November and this year also it was celebrated with great pomp in TIGPS – Durgapur. “Seed is a power of a Tree” Like that is “children’s are a power of Nation”. We in TIGPS - Durgapur celebrated the birthday of the country’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru with our Principal Sir Lighting the Lamp and Garlanding the portrait of Pandit Nehru before giving a short speech to the students on the speciality of the Day. Our teachers also performed some cultural programmes which the students greatly enjoyed. The students were also given some snacks like cakes and chocolates to commemorate the day.
Fifteen August, is a red letter day in the history of India. On this day in 1947, our country became free form the long imprisonment of the British rule. Since 1947, fifteenth August is celebrated every year with great joy and pride. We in TIGPS - Durgapur also celebrated the 72nd Independence Day in our school compound, with great pump and show. The school building and the ground were cleaned and decorated for the occasion. A flag pole was put up in front of the school building. The seating arrangement was made in front of a stage. The principal unfurled the flag with flower petals showering on all. All present sang the National Anthem in honour of the national flag. The Principal Sir made an impressive speech. A short cultural programme was organized under the supervision of all the teachers and our Principal Sir which was performed by the students as well as by the teachers and staffs. It was really an enjoyable event with everybody enjoying the occasion.
On 26th August, 2018, we in TIGPS – Durgapur celebrated the 108th Birth Anniversary of Saint Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa, who dedicated her life for the service of the poor and downtrodden, is an epitome of self-assured simplicity and hope for the hapless in the society. Inspiring assemblies were conducted by the students during the programme showing the contribution of Mother Teresa and the yeoman service that she has rendered to the society. The achievements of Mother Teresa in various fields were brought to the fore through an inspiring speech by our Principal Sir. Students performed a play on the Spirit of Charity which was the motto of Mother Teresa. In all it was a stimulating ocassion wherein children learnt about the importance of love, sacrifice and charity.
On 09.05.2018, at early morning our Principal Sir put a garland on the portrait of Rabindranath Tagore and lighted the lamp to commemorate Rabindra Jayanti in TIGPS - Durgapur. After that a group song was recited by children of various classes. After that two children recited a poem about the life history of Rabindranath Tagore one by one. A group dance (Bharatnatyam) was performed by the students. Our Principal Sir addressed the students on the life, values and philosophy of Tagore which was very enlightening for all. At the end teachers and students delivered the message of Rabindranath Tagore.
National Youth Day (Yuva Diwas or Swami Vivekananda Birthday) is celebrated with the great joy and enthusiasm in India every year on 12th of January. This year also on 12.01.2018, we at TIGPS – Durgapur celebrated the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with great devotion and enthusiasm. Our Principal Sir gave a very enlightening speech on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Teachers addressed the students about the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, to impart them moral values and enlightenment. Then the students presented a play on the life of Swami Vivekananda.
